Men give up tobacco after watching the film!
Bipin, Community Producer from Aapna Malak Maa team wrote about the impact of the video on de-addiction. Read further to know what he has to say. It has been translated into English from Gujarati.
In Dhandalpur village 5 people – Sunilbhai Naginbhai, Ganeshbhai Bhikhabhai, Ketanbhai Dhirubhai, Thobhanbhai Lagharbhai, and Bhanubhai Maganbhai live. the village is 25 kilometers from Sayla Taluka in Surendranagar District, Gujarat.
All 5 of them on the night of 6th April, 2008 gave up their habit of tobacco, cigarettes by themselves in front of the whole village, standing in the village center.
Friends, this incident happened when Apna Malak Ma team made a film on de-addiction and screened in this village in Sayla. In this video people saw the ill-effects of tobacco and alcohol. While people watched these videos they realized that tobacco and addiction actually results in many social, economical and health problems. When these 5 people also realized this among many others in the village, they left their habit in front of the public.
It is not only these 5 people who have left this habit, but in 30 villages of Sayla and Limbdi Taluka, where this film was screened, other 15 people have left this habit as well. These people used to spend an average of Rs 300 per month on their addiction. So, if we calculate these villagers will collectively save Rs 4500 per month, which can be used for much better purposes. Along with this they will also protect their health.
The efforts taken by the whole Apna malak Ma team to make films on social issues will definitely bring awareness amongst people. I just want to give one message to people that, friends, you too should leave any addiction that you have and you can save yourself from all the social, economical and health problems!!
